Helping after Katrina
Sep. 2nd, 2005 09:56 pmSo here's what I think:
If you really want to help those hurt in Katrina, do a few small things but be sure eo encourage everyone you know to do the same. Clean out your closet and donate the clothes that don't fit, you never wear, or you're holding on to only for memories. Auction some books of jewelry you don't care about that much and donate the money you get. Give up your coffee or weekly book or newspaper or nightly drink/weekend binge *gasp* or cable for a month or 2....you'd be amazed how muchn those small indulgences add up. Buy one less overpriced item at D*Con or give up eating out for a month.
Even if only the people on my f*list did any of these things we'd gather up at least $5000 dollars. That'll but a lot of formula and clean water, maybe even get a few more people out before they contract dysentery or the small wounds they haven't been able to tend to turn into gangrene. And compared to what they've lost, it's such a small thing to do.
Think about it, and if you agree pass it on.
