an update, finally!
Oct. 18th, 2002 05:01 pmI haven't actually written in forver and a day...not since I left for SF actually! The trip was alternately awful and wonderful. UCSF ENT was kinda stuffy and there were only one or two residents I actually hit it off with, plus the students I happened to be rotating with were self-important high maintenance LA types. Not precisely ideal...but not awful either.
Overall it went pretty well, and I didn't piss anyone off tooooo much. The city however was absolutely lovely! I spent my weekend wandering around up and down hills and just soaking in the scenery. Sadly the pics I took got killed when my water bottle exploded killing both my camera and my cell phone- leaving me with no way to contact anyone for over a week. It was very frustrating really. Eventually I got my cell phone replaced. But i walked miles and miles along the water, found a tree with a beautiful view to sit in, and visited some of my fav places in the city- crissy field, ghiardelli square, the museum of jewelry, chinatown etc.
The people in the city were very friendly...or rather the boys were. I think I met 7 or 8 guys who though I was the cat's meow in about 2 weeks. Much better than I usually do in Philly, that's fer sure! Most of them quickly faded into the woodwork with one or 2 exceptions. The major exception is Alex, the now bf. We met totally randomly when i stopped in a watch store at Ghairadelli square which I was only at for the chocolate festival...mmmmm.
In any case he showed me a watch and while he was ringing it up we got to talking...and kept talkin' for a long time. I called him later that week, we hung out a few times then spent evry night together until i left...and I'm going back in two weeks. Ok, so I'm in love...or as cloke or darkness says in LUUUUUURV. He's a lot of fun and we mesh well in more ways than I can count, plus I can't help relaxing around him. None or the usual will he call..what if it doesn't work out...maybe he'll cheat bulshit. It fairly serous and I'm veyr happy though I do wish he was closer.
As far as school goes I'm working in the ER for now...until then 2nd week of November. I'm waiting to hear about application for Head and Neck surgery and Pediatrics and questioning what I really want to do with my life. All the politics and ass-kissing of ENT is really getting on my nerves, plus I'm wondering if I wouldn't be happier with the much nicer colleagues in peds...and i do love the munchkins. We'll see. So far I have 3 ENT and 2 peds interviews. At least I know I'll match somewhere!
